MARCSEN (b. 1991) is a Brussels-based artist whose work examines distortion, forms, and movement, capturing the tension between struggle and equanimity in physical and mental exertion. His work explores themes of effort, introspection, and the interactions between shapes through geometry, line work, and expressive colors.
Marcsen strives to portray how form and gesture can evoke feelings of effort, resilience, and transformation. His intention is not only to represent movement but to immerse the viewer in it, engaging them in an introspective exploration of their own perceptions and responses. By distorting familiar shapes and capturing dynamic gestures, Marcsen is attempting to create an atmosphere where the physicality of the subject becomes more palpable, allowing the underlying tension and energy that drive the work to come through.
Marcsen is actively working toward being indifferent to things that are out of his control and striving to apply this philosophy to his work. Allowing things to take their course and resisting the urge to impress, he attempts to capture the soul of his subjects with an unbridled imagination.
